[REQUEST] early Darwin release or source

Post by z180 »

Has anyone a Darwin release before Mac OS X 10.0?
Kernel source before XNU-123 could be useful, too.
Found out Darwin 0.1 wasn't released and 0.2 was even more picky about hardware and without source.

Ask and you shall receive - we've just released the kernel source code for XNU-68.4-1.1 here:

Enjoy! :-)

I have the Darwin PPC CDs for 1.0 (basis for DP3) and 1.2 (basis for Public Beta), are you interested?

Thank you for your contributions.
I got the idea to hack around Rhapsody x86 and OS X DP2 soon after I bought my old PPC macs.
I read on Apples mailing lists that someone ran DP3 using a later kernel from the vanished Darwin CVS on a G3.

here is Darwin 1.0.2 and most of the first 16.03.1999 OS X server 1.0 source distribution.
But the pre XNU source (kernel-1.tar.gz)that I need for Rhapsody DR2
to improve hardware support and fix bugs, has gone missing over the years.
Perhaps someone has it on CD somewhere.

Internet Archive educated me about the unusual development cycle of Darwin and ho Apple butchered the filenames on their FTP.

Released on CD was Kernel-154.5.1-7.tar.gz (Mach 2.5 + DriverKit)
Darwin 0.2 and 0.3 seem to use the same kernel while internal OS X builds used XNU already.
Darwin source was on FTP peanuts.org and peak.org once.
DP1 =XNU-24.6
DP2=XNU-44
DP3=XNU-68.4
