Install IE9, Windows Installler 4.5 on Vista Beta builds

Post by maxtorix »

~The name of the topic was changed~
Old name was:
Vista RC2 (Beta builds) Force Updating
Vista beta builds simply cannot be updated, or it's more simply to say no one update created for vista rtm cannot be installed on any beta build.
It's that absolutely true - the answer is NO!

Here on my new project I want to show you some samples:

Windows Installer 4.5 (final rtm build) for vista installed on RC2 build 5840.

Windows Internet Explorer 9 (final rtw build) for vista installed on RC2 build 5840.

Next are Ultimate Extras+
====================================================================
UPDATE 1:

Windows Internet Explorer 9 (final rtw build) for Windows 7 installed on Pre-M1 build 6469.

I'm pretty sure for the following:
Windows Internet Explorer 9 on Vista Beta Builds and Windows 7 Beta Builds is not allowed to install because that will be bad commercial for Microsoft.
However I'm also pretty sure that I can make IE 9 Custom Setup, so All of you can test it on different Vista/7 Betas.

====================================================================
Update 2:
Also Windows Installer 4.5 (RTM) will be re-packed to Custom setup for Vista Beta builds.

IIRC, 5840 is basically the RTM build of Vista; the build was artificially inflated to 6000 for RTM. In fact, I believe one can actually even use RTM keys in 5840.

*bangs head against wall*

Yes, you can hack updates onto most builds of Windows, but why would you want to? It's a beta. Enjoy it for what it is. 5840 + SP2 = SP2.

As someone said - 5840 build is practically the RTM(it's definitely not "Beta builds" as you wrote in the topic name). So no surprise, that you can install most of Vista programs. I think that it will be better if you check compatibility of newer programs in older Vista builds, such as 5048-5270.
