Internet Explorer 6 SP2 ???

Post by maxtorix »

Internet Explorer 6 after his GOLD version has only one official major update - Service Pack 1.
But these days till I testing Longhorn 5048, I found something very strange - Internet Explorer 6 has build in Service Pack 2.

This version of Internet Explorer isn't 6.05 like in old LH builds from ages before development "reset", this version is in main class of Internet Explorer 6.

So now I'm interesting does anyone from us can rip this version and ported back to Win9x versions.

Main Version 6.0. 5048 SP2
Image
6.0 - Major version
5048 - System version
SP2 - minor version (update version)

Main Version 6.05. 4051
Image

6.05 - Major version
4051 - System version
SP0 - minor version (update version)

----------------------------------------------------
For comparing:
Main version 6.0.2900.2180
from Windows XP with Service Pack 2
Image

6.0 - Major version
2900 - System version
2180 - Minor version
SP2 - Minor version from XP SP2 (update version)
----------------------------------------------------
Product ID from 1 and 3 picture are very similar, but in XP IE has SP2 components integrated from Service Pack 2 for WinXP, but in LH 5048 there is no any Service Packs, so just the XP SP2 components for IE are slipstreamed in IE 6.0.5048.

That isn't like a "special build", it's just that IE6 SP2 wasn't available for download for older Windows versions. It's the version included in XP SP2 and 2003 SP1. That explains it's presence in 5048, as it's based on 2003 SP1 (RC?). The build tag in 5048 is different because in pre-release Windows builds, the Internet Explorer always has the build tag of the Windows version it's built in, even though it's own version may be different.
