HL2 Episode 2 Source Engine Beta

Post by papillo »

This is the beta benchmark that shows some new features from the next Half-Life 2 Episode 2, like new soft shadow effects, multi-core support and weapons like the strider buster:

Hi! Yeah, it is! with this benchmark you can check the new blood effects, the soft shadows for the source engine (this is a new add in the engine that is very very necessary nowdays, a very nice and cool effect), this test your machine with the new added particle system, so if you have a multi-core cpu it will run very fluid, like a new rain effect demonstration, and how this particle system can be used to recreate more realistic smoke for example.

To add also the new weapon first you need a model for it. Most people seem to use the Roller Mine. Copy in the roller mine model files (.mdl and .phy) and change the names to magnusson_device. Ingame, "give weapon_striderbuster" (i think its the right command, i will check it out) and you would use this new gun like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb-XGJxki7Y

If you like very much the half-life universe, and you dont want to wait until the hl2 ep2 for playing with the new engine, this is an excellent oportunity

Oh snap, is this real?
Who released it, I remember seeing a video of this a long time ago in relation to the SMP support.

Anyways, downloading now!

Also: Can someone put this on a FTP server, so we don't lose it?

Edit: Some screenshots (I have the first one, so I extracted those files)

Note the flashlight icon.

Edit 2: I got it to run, it's pretty basic, some rain, some flashy effects. It runs on both cores so it's faster.
Most textures and models are not included, so you would need to copy those from retail...
Also, the flashlight finally has a separate battery.

Then that means it's an "official" leak, someone should re-compress it, name it and put it on the FTP.
I'd do it myself but I'm on a turkish connecting until next week and power-outages aren't uncommon...

I doubt it, I don't think the crossbow has a decal for arrow holes, its probably just a missing texture.
