Theme: Windows 95 Project
I call this theme "Windows 95 Project". I modyfied Windows xp so that it looks like Windows 95. There are still some little bugs with the icons.
If you want to download it, look at deviantart: http://eggi36.deviantart.com/#/d3232la
Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project

That is SUPER cool. Thanks.
Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
@Suumpmolk Where is the registry string? I've changed in my nvidia driver the color to 8bit and then back to 32bit, but I have to to this after every restart again.
Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\
"Shell Icon BPP" values
you can also change it under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
so it will apply for ALL NEW created user accounts in future

Ah, I liked the solid, bright contrasts. These days everything is just pastel and shiny or glossy, no contrast.
I should try this for fun at some point.
Remember to add that horrible "Click here to star!" arrow that points to the start button
(or was it win98?)

Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
Actually, the actual message was "Click here to begin", and was first featured in "Chicago" a few months before the name was changed from Windows 4.0 to Windows 95 in August 1994, with the earliest build publically available to have this minor charactoristic being Build 122 from June 10th, 1994.oasiz wrote:Ah, I liked the solid, bright contrasts. It might also interest you (and others here) to know that the assorted tip feature (starting with "Click here to begin") in the Chicago Beta 1 series of builds (most notably Build 122) was later seperated from the taskbar and reintegrated into the "Welcome to Windows 95" application (having almost certainly been merged with the "Welcome to Windows" box that appears on the first boot after such Chicago Beta 1 series builds as Chicago Build 122 before the shell loads), though even as late as Windows 95 OSR 2.1, you will see a more recent attempt at the "Click here to begin" message with a slightly more modern look whenever the EXPLORER.EXE shell is abruptly executed.
Also, as far as I know, Windows 95 OSR 2.5 and later, or installations of Windows 95 up to OSR 2.1 as well as installations of Windows NT 4.0 up to Service Pack 3 that were installed together with the updated shell from Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher did not have the "Click here to begin" feature at all, since it was not a charactoristic found in the updated web integrated versions of the Windows shell files from what I've seen before.
Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
I've seen a lot of Win9x mods for XP+ throughout the years. And almost all of them suck. Except this one. You did an amazing job.

Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
Thank you for all your nice comments.
I've also replaced the Windows xp resource in the start menu so that it normally has to show Windows 95, but there was no resource for the Media Center Edition.
For the comment with this throbber and the adress bar: At first thank you for the remover, but Windows 95 has an adress bar. My theme is based on my old laptop with win95 osr2.5:

What about a vm?lhn555 wrote:Wow! Awesome! I don't have a Windows XP machine handy to try it on, though.
And why's there a windows95 theme when you can choose "Windows standard" from the menu?
Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
Maybe because the Windows 95 theme is probably a better theme to choose if you want your Windows to actually look like Windows 95 instead of standard? Windows 95 theme is much more accurate in detail vs Windows standard theme when comparing to an actual Windows 95 GUI.tonynoname wrote: And why's there a windows95 theme when you can choose "Windows standard" from the menu?

Excellent - I tried it out and it looks amazing. Will install this on my XP VM
Re: Theme: Windows 95 Project
This looks brilliant. I remember Windows 95, once upon a time. I'll test it in my XP VM to see if it's more brilliant!
