"Windows 95" just magically appeared on start menu along too eh?
Re: Windows beta builds that are NOT in the MS Collection Bo
Hi,
skfunnyboy fixed the broken ARJ archive in this build:
http://cornelia.regengedanken.de/~mdrue ... T1227S.rar (this time without password)
Actually, it's not fixed, just all other (intact) files repacked. The only missing (i.e. broken) file is SOUND36.WAV which can be taken from another NT4 server build (the WAV files didn't change much between the builds I guess) to get a working and complete version.
Thanks skfunnyboy!
I have found some other betas (MS Visual Basic, MSIE2.0, MS Commerce Server, MS Connection Point Services, MS Exchange Server, and some non-MS software) and some ALPHA (even MIPS/PPC) software from MS, although most of that is pretty unspectacular (SDKs, System Management Server, stuff like that) although I do have Excel5 for ALPHA if there's any interest in that.

I upload stuff to archive.org from time to time. See here for everything that doesn't fit BA
Re: Windows beta builds that are NOT in the MS Collection Bo
Any beta you have will be much welcome.
And there are some Non-X86 users here too that I think would be happy to get more software for their platform.
And hey, you have 10 posts! Go see if you can get FTP access now

Could you re-upload all the files Darkstar?

OK Darkstar, can you re-upload the Windows 95 SDK beta2, PC-DOS 7.0 final beta, and PC-DOS 7.0 beta?
What is OFS?

OFS is short for Object-Oriented File System. It's a prototype of a file system with support for structured and unstructured data, which Microsoft intended to include as a feature in Cairo before it was cancelled.

Re: Windows beta builds that are NOT in the MS Collection Bo
The first phase installation of Windows NT 3.5 Build 854 on VPC 2004 is completed, however:
1. I deleted the RDR.SYS file because of Trojan.
2. I don't know how to patch the installation files (INTITAL.INF and SETUP.INF) to work for Pentium II or later processors.
Here is the result:
Can you show me a fix (because copying the patched installer files from 807 build leads to the error)?

Re: Windows beta builds that are NOT in the MS Collection Bo
@trustBA,
From Rob's MCB1. Boot with an Windows 95 bootdisk
2. Use FDISK to create a partition
3. Reboot
4. Format the partition with: A:\>Format C: /u /s
5. Now make a dir on C:\ using the command C:\>md i386
6. Copy all files to this dir from the R:\i386 drive: C:\>copy R:\i386\*.* C:\i386
7. If it fails on banana.an_ (banana.ani -> CD-Rom Driver), shutdown the VM, open the harddrive image and just copy the i386 folder into the root of the drive
8. Reboot computer without bootdisk
9. At C:\> type: cd i386
10. Then use C:\i386>WINNT.EXE
You must create the boot floppy's, otherwise it will not boot (at 3.1)
11. Reboot the machine when setup asks for it
12. Now the 2nd fase of text-setup loads and go through it normally and reboot
13. When the machine reboots, shut it down and open the harddrive image file
14. Copy initial.inf & setup.inf from \winnt\system32 to your harddrive.
15. Open the 2 files and replace the following line STF_PROCESSOR = I586 in both files in an plain text editor (notepad adds some characters, use wordpad or notepad++).
16. Replace the 2 files in these 2 locations: %systemdrive%\windows\system32 and %systemdrive%\$win_nt$.~ls
17. Now save the harddrive image file and then boot the machine again and go through the GUI stage of the setup as normal

what do you do if you dont have any medium density disks?
* if i read the initial.inf in the i386 folder correctly then this build supports Alpha,Mips and PowerPc as well as x86?
