Windows Server code name "Aurora"

Post by Daniel »

Reading the latest blog post of Rafael Rivera about the recently leaked Vail build I decided to start a little search on "Windows Server code name Aurora". Now look what I found:

The url to this site is https://www.wanderingkiwi.com. This site is registered to Guy Haycock, a member of the Windows Small Business Server team.

My would guess its the codename for the upcoming version of SBS...

You should also check this site out: http://bjosbs.com/Setup/Launch.aspx

Edit:

Have a look at the remote access login pages of both, they look pretty identical. Since Vail is the codename for the next WHS, this makes it even more likely that Aurora is the codename for the next SBS...

Next home server is Vail, so I guess this is the next SBS...

I got some internal MS docs mentioning Aurora/SBS 2008 v2:
Image

As you can see Aurora is indeed the upcoming SBS....

@Pwned:
That file you found there is pretty interesting since it has another new codename... Colorado...

Seeing that it also has the hsbs tag I think Aurora/Vail will have the same Connector software which has the codename Colorado.....

The complete buildtag of the file you found is 6.1.7408.0 (hsbs_main.091216-2300)...

So what we know so far:

Vail: upcoming Windows Home Server
Aurora: upcoming Windows Small Business Server
Colorado: Connector software for both, WHS and SBS

^^all three are developed by the same team, HSBS (Home and Small Business Server team)...

I got the local (!!) IP-Address of WanderingKiwi, that's 192.168.1.197!
We may crack VPN (or something...) and access that IP!

Pwned:

Is that really a good idea or constructive? Wouldn't MS have pretty good security?

No, it's not a good idea, just a thought...

What the [censored]?
https://bjosbs.com/connect/

6.1.7447.0
In this connector, icon is new and sleek, no Colorado codename in the description, and no HEX /n Errors. Seems like Microsoft updated Aurora a bit.

Perhaps the box is being upgraded through every build just after it is compiled..

It isn't possible to port the connector to WHS 03, is it?

WHS Aurora is installable from the same package as Vail. But in order to install Aurora, the proper configuration file must be present.
