Tape Drive Does Not Work Correctly with Third-Party Backup Programs

SYMPTOMS

When you use a third-party backup program to back up files to a tape drive, you may notice one or both of the following behaviors:

  • Scheduled backup jobs are not performed successfully.
  • The tape drives are reconfigured in the backup program.


CAUSE

This issue may occur if both of the following conditions are true:

  • The tape drive that you are using is not a Plug and Play (PnP) device.


-and-

  • Tape drive driver updates or other storage device configuration changes have been made on your computer.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, make sure that any storage devices that you use are Plug and Play devices, and that you are using the most current drivers. (You must also have current drivers for non Plug and Play devices that appear to function correctly.)
