SYMPTOMS
If you start any of the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you are using a component of TREND Micro PC-cillin antivirus software that uses the Pop3trap.exe file.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, disable the Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) Scan feature of the TREND Micro PC-cillin antivirus software:
- Double-click the PC-cillin icon at the far right of the taskbar.
- Click to clear the Enable POP3 Scan check box.
- Reconfigure your POP3 e-mail account in Microsoft Outlook with the correct settings.
For example, if the original POP3 server is "mailserver.com" (without quotation marks), and the user name is "username," (without quotation marks) the TREND Micro PC-cillin may have modified the settings as follows:Username: "username/POP3 server name"
You may have to reconfigure your POP3 e-mail account in Outlook with the following settings:
UserName: "username"
Confirm these settings with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). For additional information about how to reconfigure your Internet e-mail account, click the article numbers below to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
