- Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you open a file that contains a macro that is assigned to the Tools menu, the macro may not be run when you choose the command that runs the macro from the Tools menu.

CAUSE

This problem only occurs if the name of the project that the macro is stored in contains a period (.) character, such as TEST.MPP or PROJECT.1. When you choose the command that runs the macro from the Tools menu, the mouse pointer appears as a wristwatch, and then becomes an arrow again, but the macro does not run and you do not receive an error message.

Under this condition, when you choose the macro command from the Tools menu a second time, the macro runs as expected.

Note that this problem does not occur when you assign a macro to a menu other than the Tools menu, using the Menu Bar Definition dialog box.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Rename the file so that it does not have an .MPP file extension. Give the file another extension, or do not use an extension at all.

Method 2: Choose the macro again from the Tools menu. The macro runs the second time you choose it from the Tools menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
