Virtual Memory Problems Printing Tables to PostScript Printers |
Q128692
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0
- Microsoft Windows 3.1
SYMPTOMS
You may get virtual memory errors, or the document may not print, if you try to print a document containing pictures inside a table from Word 6.0 for Windows to a PostScript Printer with ATM PostScript fonts installed.
CAUSE
The problem seems to be related to the way that Word prints tables to a PostScript printer. The tables add overhead to the document and cause the printer to run out of virtual memory.
STATUS
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
WORKAROUNDS
Method 1: Remove the graphics from the table cells.
Method 2: Print the document using columns or tabs instead of table cells.
Method 3: Print the document to a PCL (non-PostScript) printer.
Method 4: Uninstall the ATM PostScript fonts.
MORE INFORMATION
Changing the video driver has little or no effect on the problem.
Increasing the memory on the printer may help, but if you make the document more complex, the problem may recur.
