Linux Mint is a Linux distro with two versions: Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu, and LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition), based on Debian.[1]

Previously, beginning 2.2 "Bianca", Linux Mint came with a "Light Edition". The "Light Edition" was intended for users in countries where legislation allows enforcement of software patents.[2][3]
