LH 4066 WIM repack - fully working

Post by ovctvct »

I've made a WIM repack of 4066, because it's default i386 installer is pretty slow, it's made with pantherxp.

Changes made: Jade theme enabled, useless services disabled,hw acceleration enabled, transparent aero glass patch(desksrv.dll) included, sidebar disabled to save memory. VMware SVGA 6.5.2 driver pre-installed, so you can just press Ctrl+Shift+F9 to enable glass.

Very nice of you to make a .WIM repack, it's very accurate with Longhorn 5112's setup.

Also, can you upload it to MEGA please? Because Firefox Developer Edition does not like Google Drive so much.

If you have issues downloading, here's the direct link: https://docs.google.com/uc?export=downl ... kJRaFd3UTQ It should download as soon as you click it.

Firefox doesn't like tasting Google Drive's downloads.

Literally.

Beware that for dwm/aero you need to have vmware workstation 7.1.x(or player 3.1.x, workstation 8 also works if you set it to 6.5-7x compatibility), and you still need to change your BIOS date back- I didn't crack it, since it's not allowed by the rules. The vmware video driver is pre-installed, so you don't need to do it yourself.

I am starting installation of the .WIM repack.

Timeline will update at an important point every time.

No. 1: I've got this nice looking Vista bootscreen. Wonder if it's based on the RTM build of Vista.

No. 2: The PE started, but it is based on 4053's engine.

No. 3: I am currently installing the well-made .wim version of LH Server 4066.

No. 4: Hey, Windows file transfer complete!

No. 5: Dialogue

Darwin: Oh, look! Broken screen resolution!

Eventually, LH is so stupid with screen resolutions during the OOBE.

No. 6: Finally, after a loong time because of that Please wait screen, I finally get to be in the third stage!

No. 6 EDIT: Also, why does it say Recnse Agreement?

No. 7: Great, now it's finished.

What are you installing it on? I hope VMware, as it was meant for it. And use the TCP8W-T8PQJ-WWRRH-QH76C-99FBW (dashes will be added automatically) key for it, as with 4074.

Weird, The Google Drive link works just fine on Firefox when I downloaded it.

Also, Will this work on real hardware or does it only work on VMware? I have an Acer Ferrari 4000 that I'd be willing to install Longhorn on, It doesn't have any incompatibilities with it (Uses IDE Hard Drive, GPU is old enough to have working drivers.). So it should be fine on there.

I don't know, he never mentioned using it on a real machine.

Also, Firefox thinks Google Drive is disgusting because it spits out incredibly terrible sizes (ex. 182436432676 GB, this is crazy!). And it never downloads.

Yes, of course it works, just uninstall the video driver.

@PivotGuy I use firefox 28 and can download from google perfectly fine. I have never received those weird numbers, I just don't get a progress indicator. Yet that happens on any other browser.
Maybe it's just the fact I'm using an old firefox.

@MSUser, it is possible to load Longhorn on SATA. I've personally done it myself on a 2011 laptop with SATA iii. You just need to put a little effort into it.
Although the only problem I hit was graphics. The XP driver just won't load.

Look, instead of being all bossy in just about every thread you decide to visit, how about getting this amazing thing called proper knowledge? Google Drive downloads supply no Content-Length which results in no proper progress bar, no matter which browser you use. The progress bar you see should be the browser's default indeterminate one and I have 0 idea on how old of a firefox version you need to be running for it to have broken Content-Length-less download progress handling.

Something must be broken with your browser or something, it is just 691 MB in size, small enough to fit on a CD,I use firefox too but it always worked for me.

You can fake SP via CSDVersion in regedit.
