It doesn't work because its just a load of VBScript (lol) that just redirects you elsewhere depending on your OS version etc.

There are several pages that weren't saved by the Wayback Machine. There are .asp files that are server-side only as well (also, ActiveX).

Index of the saved pages, for what it's worth. Still, there are some goodies left there.

The only choice would be recreating the page by memory.

It's not worth it.

Fun fact: The other sections of Windows Update (w98, mil, whi) contain even less than the w95 folder, so using them to fill the gaps doesn't exactly work.

EDIT: There is also this folder which contains more saved pages of the old Windows Update site. There are also files with various extensions related to updates that I can't find a way how to open them.

I posted re: this on an alternate site back in 2012, I've copied and pasted to avoid reinventing the wheel:

"Microsoft has recently pulled Windows 95 Update and Windows 98/98SE/ME Update, so loading either page no longer works. However, here are the pages so you can manually download the updates.
Microsoft Windows 95 Downloads: http://web.archive.org/web/200112180715 ... downloads/
(December 18, 2001)

Microsoft Windows 98 Downloads: http://web.archive.org/web/200607071236 ... porate.asp
(July 7, 2006)

I've posted the latest available dates for each operating system *BEFORE* support was dropped. Windows 95 support was dropped December 31, 2001 and Windows 98/98SE/ME was dropped July 11, 2006.

This is the only way to ensure the integrity of the downloads, as Microsoft was not obligated to provide these downloads after the expiration of support.

In a rare case some of the update links may be broken; or it may be impossible to "accept" the license agreement since these pages are archived. In that case you need to right-click and use "view source" in your browser to locate the "exe." for each file. Then copy and paste the entire address in your browser. If you have trouble doing this, contact me."

Holy moly sdfox7 I just got a major nostalgia blow. I only just remembered again when the MS Download centre looked like that. If only it still did, it was one of my favourite websites functionality wise.
