Windows Vista 5112 SigmaTel?

Post by yourepicfailure »

I decided to stick with 5112 rather than the less stable newer builds.
Problem is, those builds contained a sound driver with install, unlike 5112. The device is SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec, AKA, SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio.
I'm installing proper Xp drivers, but I get a nice code 18 and "The device attached to the system is not functioning". Looks like driver incompatibility. Used a variety of drivers for this device from ancient to new.
For obvious reasons, the included drivers from 5219+ do not work.
So, I'm wondering if there are some alternate solutions for this.Or if I'm stuck without audio.

No, I'm not installing any RTM. With RTM, the N-Trig device fails after 48 total usage hours and with 5112, no issue, yet.

Anyone know how to force Aero?

Here is a topic, solved or unsolved, I don't know.

err under real machine you need specific drivers for "aero"
for VM I never managed to do so

on machine I used nVidia LDDM beta driver and only managed to invoke "Aero Express" (aka level 2)

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon Xpress x1250, but I'm really not sure if there is LDDM. Even so, several of the google results are deprecated or irrelevant, and some don't even go to proper sites.

Nope. None of the drivers worked. However, 5219's almost worked -- until I got a pretty 640, 480 resolution with lovely 16 color depth. Maybe I screwed up, but probably not.

the beta 1 and early 2 are picky, very picky
while I had troubles with 5112
5259 instantly gave me aero/dwm

so shoot for higher
even 5048 gave me shizle, the dwm only worked for me via CPU mode

which is kinda funny, seems like transition from later longhorns to early betas
made something picky with DWM regarding graphic drivers

for instance anything prior 4074 gave me nice DWM/DCE (same GPU and drivers were used)
but anything between 4074 and 5219 gave me bonkers

one could argue "well LH used XP drivers and Vista had its own", nope I always used same XP
except for 5112's LDDM case
