Lonhorn 4074 installation on PC

Post by Y@riK »

Hi, everybody!
I writed .iso image to dvd disc, and started from it on my pc.
When starting, it stopped without bsod.
P.s.:
AMD E2-2000 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.75Ghz
4.00 GB Memory.
I try install it from setup.exe in XP. Doesn't work.
But, XP older, and it working! With video driver, and others drivers!

UPD: The system stops when on screen text: "Please, wait..." (it after "Starting Windows PE)

Some Longhorn installs are fidgety like that. Since you didn't mention it, I'm just gonna ask did you set your BIOS date back?

I think your computer is far too new to run Longhorn natively. The AMD E2-2000 was released almost 10 years after 4074 was compiled! Try getting some 2003-2004-ish hardware and install it on that. Better yet, install a new(er) version of Windows (or even install Windows Technical Preview) and install VMWare Workstation on that. Then install Longhorn in a virtual machine.

I had 4074 running quite happily on a Pentium 4 Northwood (2.6GHz) with 512MB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce4 MX440 (64MB). DWM/Aero work right out of the box with the included drivers. These components are all 2002-vintage but run great.

That would definitely be better hardware to test on.
