[OFFER] MS abandonware

Post by Overdoze »

Recently, I found a bunch of English and Dutch MS abandonware (mostly Office stuff, but also some others), so in case anyone's interested, you can get it here.

Most of the floppy/ISO images had to be recreated, though original file dates and untouched SETUP.INI were preserved in most cases. Any additional information is in the README.TXT of each release. AFAIK none of these are on the FTP at the moment.

Thanks for these :) Unfortunately MEGA is very slow for me, I'll just wait until they are on the FTP. Thanks for your contribution :)

I checked the server, looks like you should upload Word 6.0a English.

About that Word 6.0a:

as explained in the README, version numbers of Word 6.x can be quite confusing and mixed up. Here's all the versions I've seen so far:
  • 6.0.0.2024 - Beta
  • 6.0.0.2117 - RC/Preview
  • 6.0.0.2207 - 6.0 Thai RTM
  • 6.0.0.2222 - 6.0 English RTM
  • 6.0.0.2226 - 6.0 English RTM
  • 6.0.0.2513 - 6.1 and 6.0a English ???
  • 6.0.0.2607 - 6.0 and 6.0a International ???
  • 6.0.0.3015 - 6.0c
  • 6.0.0.3405 - 6.0 Word for NT
  • 6.0.0.3606 - 6.0 Arabic RTM
  • 6.0.0.3614 - 6.0 Chinese Simplified RTM
I have no idea why they went back to 2513 for Word 6.1, or why some 2607 call themselves 6.0a while others don't. Thai version also makes no sense, because it's actually earlier than the English RTM, as well as considering the fact that middle and far-east language translations came later and had higher build numbers.

Nothing says they're betas, so I assume they're final/RTM, just different builds. It was quite common for Office programs to have several different builds per release.

Also, I can't find any standalone Excel 5.0c on the FTP, unless you mean the one included in a release of MS Office. In any case, these are all final builds with minor differences that were sold in stores at some point.

Please consider that there were both Word for DOS 6.0 as well as Word for Windows 6.0 and name it appropriately when archiving on the FTP.
Please don't forget to be respectful to each other.

Not really my problem, because:

1. I'm not uploading these to the FTP, I just put a link for people to grab the stuff.

2. The naming convention on the FTP is pretty messy. You got Word for Windows labeled as both WfW and simply Word, same with Word for MS-DOS.
