How do we know 4.10.1650.8 is .8?

Post by DiskingRound »

I have a warez CD that has this build on it and is called "1650.8". (well it's useless because we have the full cd with scan). But where does the .8 in 1650.8 (or just 1650) come from? The properties window just shows Beta 3. But where does this number come from? Just like 2499.7, it must be a later build than 1650.3 (which clearly calls itself 1650.3).

Even though there aren't really many files in the build to prove that, there is a lot of proofs in newsgroup articles from around the time when the official Beta 3 - 1650.8 was released

Just a small list of facts proving it is indeed .8
** .0 is actually .8 mislabeled, you can check with various newsgroup articles from 1997-1998
** The SubVersionString in setuppp.inf only says Beta 3 though, not .8, that's because it was the final Beta 3 compile
** If real .0 (re)leaked, it should just say 4.10.1650 in sysdm.cpl as opposed to 4.10.1650.3 in .3 and 4.10.1650 Beta 3 in .8
** .3 has files dated 1st December '97 while this so called .0 which is actually .8 has them dated 9th December '97
