[OFFER] IBM OS/2 Warp 4 "Merlin" Beta 9.018

Post by DiskingRound »

I found this build of OS/2 on an old pirate CD from 1996. This build identifies itself as version 9.99, os2krnli says 9.018.
I am currently uploading this to the FTP. Sorry but my internet is slow.
Edit: Currently on the upload folder and will be on the download FTP shortly in a few days.

While I was installing it in VirtualBox it repeatedly asked for printer driver disk 1 even though I selected no printer. However just restart and it shouldn't make a difference.

Why do OS/2 betas always have weird version numbers?

Anyway, nice find.

It's actually the revision number. The build number is 18. The revision is 9.018. That's how BetaArchive and The Distractor labeled the builds.

I meant why were OS/2 2.0/2.1 betas labeled 6.XXX, 3.0 betas 8.XXX and then even 9.99?

Probably just like how 2000 betas are labeled 5.0, XP 5.1, and Longhorn 6.0. Not too sure about why they skipped 7 or the 9.99 version.

Windows betas make perfect sense to me, NT 4.0 was version 4.0, so 2000 is 5.0 and so on. But why in the world is OS/2 2.0 actually version 6.0?

Sorry if it's a small bump but I just found that the NFO contained a reference to build 9.014. This came from Crazy Bytes volume 08 so 9.014 could be on another pirate disc somewhere else. From the lists I have seen 9.014 is not on any Crazy Bytes CD, though.

If it's mentioned in the NFO, it's possible that the same group released it earlier. I'd be interested in what's the name of the group, perhaps it's on one of the other discs I found.

I think it's Apollo, i will find out once I get access to my main computer. As for 9.014, it's not on any warez CD's I'm aware of. In any case, it's out there somewhere.
EDIT: Supplier: Crypto. Packager: Apollo. The logo was cut out so I don't know the exact warez group. The NFO contains a reference to 9.014:
and the 9.014 reference:

Code: Select all

≥ This version has been optimized a lot since build 14 ≥
≥ and can actually be used in a daily basis. ≥
≥ Base OS installation will eat up 110mb of your disk ≥
≥ and if you add Win-OS/2 support another 10-15mb ≥
 ≥ will be used .... ≥
This build is also an IMG dump rather than a folder dump.
EDIT 2: Proof of 9.014 existing: http://crydee.sai.msu.ru/ftproot/pub/co ... asv-review
