Disc with beta stuff from Interplay (PC)

Post by Awooo »

Here is a disc with some working versions of games from Interplay/Gremlin. I haven't tested them all, so I'm not aware of
the differences to retail.

The games are:

- Fatal Racing (Whiplash)
- Hardwar
- Normality Inc.
- Realms of the Haunting
- Actua Soccer

Wow, that thing is great!
I quickly checked the EXEs against the CD catalog (via drag-drop) and found zero matches, so these demos seem to be pretty rare.

Especially the Hardwar demo is a very unsual find, as it dates 3 years before the release of the actual game. Also it indicates that it's actually Slipstream 2.

The Fatal Racing demo is predated by this demo, by one month: http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 66983&o=da

The regular demo of Normality Inc. is 2 months (or 4 according to the readme on your CD) younger than yours: http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 90711&o=da

Your Realms of the Haunting demo is more than a year prerelease and predates the regular demo by 16 months: http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 84819&o=da

The demo of Actua Soccer (aka Euro '96) is selfrunning and doesn't seem to be sooo special as there are several similar demos around:
http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 83072&o=da
http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 49273&o=da
http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 52256&o=da
[edit]:
http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 40551&o=da
http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... 86074&o=da

but something went wrong with this demo:
http://www.kultcds.com/Catalog/index.ph ... Eurosoc&o=

Seemingly, it contains the entire source code of the game oO

Ouch, that thing includes the personal phone numbers of the developers in Test.cpp >.<

I'm trying to imagine the person who accidentially put the code in the demo and later realized his mistake. S/he must have said the f-word so often *hehe*

No worries! :D

I don't think these demos were public, but rather used at a trade event or as press previews. The CD itself does not look like a normal CD-R, it's just a gold disc.

The source code is not on your CD, but on a french magazine CD (see catalog link above).

Ah, Thanks. I bet whoever did it decided to keep silent and hope for the best, lol.

I took the liberty to upload the source code for Actua Soccer/Euro '96, seperately:

I think it's still beta stage, so maybe it's something for the ftp...

The Normality Inc. (demo/beta) is missing a few fmv videos, but its kinda cool to use the debug menu to teleport to different locations.
