Windows 98 build 1650
Windows 98 build 1650
I installed my copy of Windows 98 1650 next to BetaArchive's copy of it and found a few differences.
First, I have the full disc, as shown in the screenshot.
Mine on the left, BA's on the right.
My disc = 650MB
BA's disc = 160MB
During installation, I found that BA's copy requires a CD key to install where mine does not:
BA's copy of 4.10.1650 requires a CD key
After installation, a couple small differences can be seen. My "Channel" quick launch icon is showing the Windows default icon, whereas BA's "Channel" icon is showing properly. There is also a shortcut to the Windows 98 Beta 3 release notes on the desktop, something mine lacks.
There is also a small difference in how the product IDs are shown. Mine shows "24264-234-xxxxxxx-12249" where BA's copy shows "xxxxx-1111111111-66524".
Other than that, the two copies seem to be identical. Does anyone want the full CD of Windows 98 1650?
Let me just plug in this scanner...

Re: Windows 98 build 1650
Seems like your copy has been pirated... So, some scene members changed it to look ready (remove Beta Notes etc).

Nope, my copy is 100% legit, as it's from an original Microsoft CD. http://www.betaarchive.com/screenshots/ ... 20Program/Pwned wrote:Seems like your copy has been pirated... So, some scene members changed it to look ready (remove Beta Notes etc).

Thanks for offering this build.
Once it's finally uploaded, I'll eventually add this to my internal server.

Re: Windows 98 build 1650
Alright, here's what I'll do:
First, I'll try uploading it to the BA server. Most likely this will fail so
Second, I'll try uploading to Filefactory and making it a VIP leak where anyone in the VIP group can upload it to BA. If that fails then
Third, I'll burn a CD-r of the ISO image and send it to mrpijey or someone respectable on here.

Re: Windows 98 build 1650
linuxlove, I think the reason why your copy of Windows 98 is different because it could come from different discs like released in different counties like one in the USA and the other in Canada or something. That is one possibility.
And why do you say that if you upload to BA FTP server, it will fail?

Recently, any time I've tried to leak anything onto the BA server it's always failed during the night.Cats869 wrote:And why do you say that if you upload to BA FTP server, it will fail?

Re: Windows 98 build 1650
Well, what kind of connection do you have? Wireless or Ethernet cable connection? You are on a LAN right? What is the speed of your internet? If you are on a wireless connection which has bad connection and the speed of your internet is slow, then yeah that would make sense.linuxlove wrote:Recently, any time I've tried to leak anything onto the BA server it's always failed during the night.Cats869 wrote:And why do you say that if you upload to BA FTP server, it will fail?

Re: Windows 98 build 1650
Every time I've tried to upload something it has been on a wired connection. Amazingly though, the upload actually went through, so there will be no need to make it a VIP leak or burn a CD-r copy.
Goodbye.
