Windows Vista build 5219 is the first post-reset build leaked that contains the sidebar but has to be download separately. It is very difficult to get the gadgets to run on the sidebar. Experimented in pre-reset builds, the sidebar was implemented up until the Vista RTM due to high demand.

Windows Vista Build 5219 (with a build tag of 5219.winmain_idx02.050830-2010) is a pre-release build of Windows Vista—the first released to the general public with the Beta 2 designation, the first official build of the Ultimate edition, and the first to extensively use the new "Vista" name (instead of "Longhorn"). With its release, Microsoft introduced various incremental improvements—and several major changes—during the development process when contrasted with the previous Build 5112. Hillel Cooperman (of Get Users to Fall in Love With Your Software esteem) used this build to demonstrate Microsoft Max at PDC 2005.

This was among the earliest builds to use the Windows Vista logo within the About Windows dialog box, with a somewhat gradient and slightly flamboyant green background, and a wholely white Windows flag logo, along with Windows text of the same tone of color, as opposed to the old Longhorn logo used from the 405x builds up to at least as far as Build 5112, if not even later.
New features in this build include improvements to Windows AERO; rich tooltips for metadata painting (descriptions informing of actions that will occur when dragging an item into a group or stack to write a metadata property to that item); a Contacts user profile folder (with subdirectories and features not present in the RTM version); preliminary Control Panel applets for Peer-to-Peer (People Near Me) and Secure Startup (BitLocker); premium games such as Purble Place; improvements to Network Projection and SafeDocs; the pre-reset SuperFetch service; and new applications such as Windows Calendar. The Windows Experience Index—referred to as a PC's power rating—is referenced by the Help and Support Center.

Build 5219 represents the first significant departure of the initial Virtual Folder setup introduced with AutoLists in Build 5048 (and continued with Virtual Folders in Build 5112). A single Library Virtual Folder—which aggregates and displays documents, music, photos and videos based on subqueries—replaces the Virtual Folders of previous builds dedicated to these types of content. The navigation pane of Windows Explorer, and the Start menu now include links to these subqueries, and only the Library and Recent Documents Virtual Folders are present in the navigation pane. The new Library is evocative of pre-reset "Longhorn" and further is emblematic of Microsoft's continued vision for Virtual Folders as depicted in later concepts. Despite this transition, Build 5129 introduces Shared By Me and User's Files Virtual Folders.

There were also further updates to Aero Glass in this build, not to mention that this build was even distributed among two thousand and five PDC (Professional Developers Conference) attendants on September 13th, 2005, having also been released to Microsoft beta testers and MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) subscribers).
Guided Help and Windows Speech Recognition are included with this build. PC-to-PC Synchronization is available for the same folders as Build 5112, and also for the new Contacts folder (and notably for its Other and Personal subdirectories—the first instance where it is available for folders outside of the main user profile). Build 5219 does not include Network Computer Sharing; the Save Ghost (a preview in the Shell of an item about to be saved to disk); and the List Pane or Static Lists. Nevertheless, it includes extensive preliminary documentation in the Help and Support Center for both Network Computer Sharing and Static Lists.

This was also the first known build in which an Ultimate variant of it was compiled, not to mention that it also included Super Fetch.

** PC-to-PC Synchronization for Contacts and its subdirectories
* Control Panel applets for Peer-to-Peer (People Near Me) and Secure Startup (BitLocker)
* DirectX-based versions of classic Windows games: FreeCell, Hearts, Minesweeper, and Solitaire
* Premium games including Chess (Chess Titans), Purble Place, Shanghai (Mahjong Titans), and Spider Solitaire
* Rich tooltips for metadata painting

* SuperFetch (System Maintenance Service)
* Windows AERO improvements (Flip 3D, glass and thumbnails in ALT+TAB (now Windows Flip), and glass taskbar thumbnails)
* Windows Calendar
* Windows Photo Library
* Windows Sidebar (available as a downloadable component)

As said above, the Windows Sidebar, much to the surprise of everyone, was reimplemented by the time this build was compiled, despite being notably absent in the earlier builds compiled after the reset occured.
Potential Features
* The Game Updates feature is referenced by the Help and Support Center.
* The Windows Experience Index is referenced by the Help and Support Center.

This build was also among the first to introduce Desktop Gadgets, both of which are part of the Microsoft gadgets line of mini-applications, as well as a new version of Windows Media Center, codenamed "Diamond".
Removed Features
These features/options which were previously included in Windows Vista Build 5112 have been removed from Build 5219:
* List Pane
* Save Ghost
* Static Lists
These features/options which were previously included in Windows Vista Build 5212 are not present in Build 5219:
* Network Computer Sharing

Despite Microsoft's decision to later remove WinFS from Windows Vista, certain people testing this build noted that WinFS was still implemented in this build, misleading people to believe that it was still to be released as part of Windows Vista upon the RTM build's compilation and eventual product release.
Changes
* As this build is of the Ultimate edition (and not the Professional edition as Build 5112 is) it includes applications and functionality from Windows XP Tablet PC Edition: Inkball, Sticky Notes, and Windows Journal, as well as Control Panel applets for tablet PC settings. Windows Media Center, originally included with Windows XP Media Center Edition is also included. The Ultimate edition includes functionality from all Windows editions.
* The "About Windows" dialog box references Windows Vista instead of "Longhorn"; this is the first officially released build to reference the new name since its earlier announcement.
* The classic "Tile Windows Horizontally" and "Tile Windows Vertically" taskbar context menu options have been renamed as "Show Windows Stacked" and "Show Windows Side by Side", respectively.
* The Library Virtual Folder scopes the the primary user profile, MAPIFolders, Offline Files (the client-side cache (CSC)), and Public; User's Files is identical. Previously, all Virtual Folders (e.g., All Documents of Build 5112) scoped locations that corresponded to their own item type (in the case of All Documents, only Desktop, Documents, and Public Documents were scoped). With this change, separate Virtual Folders are not necessary as all types of items can be referenced by the Library.
* The schema for Windows Search has been updated since Build 5112 to include the following elements for Network Computer Sharing:
** System/Castle/CastleName ("The name of a Castle.")
** System/Castle/CastleGUID ("The GUID for a castle.")
** System/Castle/ComputerState ("The status of a computer in the castle.")
* Virtual Folders of previous builds are no longer referenced in the navigation pane—excluding Recent Documents—or by the Start menu; however, they are still present in the "Virtual Folders" user profile folder (where they will remain until Windows Vista Build 5259).

No matter what you do to try and install drivers from XP or Vista on Vista build 5219, it will never work. It will always say "An error has occurred."

Windows Vista imagery from Microsoft (reminiscent of "Longhorn") uses the Library introduced in this build.
