Windows Longhorn build 4084.main.040517-0915 is a build of Windows Longhorn. It is similar to the other 408x and 409x builds, with a lot of features (even the wallpaper) absent as a result of componentisation: the operating system (OS) was stripped down to its bare minimum working configuration, with the intention of re-adding features as the OS was componentised.[1]
On 16 October 2011, the full ISO leaked.
Bugs / Results of stripping down the OS
- During setup, the mouse driver is broken. Therefore, one cannot use a mouse. Nor can hard disks be formatted because of missing files.[2]
- The User Accounts control panel applet does not work.[2]
- Accessing the Performance and Maintenance section in the Control Panel leads to an explorer.exe crash.[2]
- Hardware and Devices does not work.[2]
- Outlook Express and Communication History are broken.[2]
- Changing Sidebar tiles leads to a recurring crash of explorer.exe. The only solution is to reinstall the build.[2]
