Windows "Longhorn" build 4011 (with a build tag of 4011.main.030305-2045) is a build of the Microsoft Windows "Longhorn" operating system. Compiled on 5 March 2003, it leaked on 21[1][2] July 2006.[3] This build is similar to build 4008.[3][4]
Main changes
- Boot screen[3][4][5] (see Gallery)
- Sidebar: Synchronize (web content) and Windows Media Player tiles[3][6]
- Desktop Composition Engine (DCE) can be enabled with the command
rundll32 uxdesk.dll,DCEStart.[3] DCE only generates a transparency effect on windows and the Start menu[7][3] (see Gallery). A DirectX 8 graphics card is required.[citation needed] - Small updates to the theme title bars[4]
- "Move sidebar and taskbar" window to change the layout of the sidebar and the taskbar[3] (see Gallery)
- "Extended Tiles" view mode (published in Windows Vista and Windows 7 as "Content")[3] (see Gallery)
- Redesigned window showing options when plugging in a removable disk (see Gallery)
- "Setup Synchronization" to sync files through USB (see Gallery)
- The background of the preview pane of "My Computer" and all folders related to the system is gray, not blue[3]
- WinFS: The "Contacts" virtual folder appears in My Computer[3]
- "About Windows" (winver) shows a "1985-2006" copyright date[8]
- Desktop aurora[9]
- Spinning icons on the desktop[10]
- 3D View[11]
Issues
The leaked ISO is bootable, but does not install due to a bug in the Windows Preinstallation Environment.[4] The installer does not unpack files.[3] A workaround is to install the build from build 3706,[3] or by using the 4008 ISO (replacing install.wim with the 4011 version),[4] or to use BetaArchive user ovctvct's i386 repack.[12]
During the second stage of Setup, the OOBE is broken. Only the first page is displayed.[4] To fix this, the user must press the Shift and F10 keys at the same time to launch the Command Prompt, type taskmgr, press enter, then kill oobe.exe. The build will then logon automatically.[12]
The icons in Windows Explorer go "fuzzy" when the user clicks or uses the keyboard.[4]
