Windows Longhorn Milestone 3 Build 3683 (6.0.3683 is a Lab06 (Shell) build, compiled on 6:21 PM on October 23, 2002) It is the first publicly-leaked Longhorn build, and features Plex, a WPF Desktop Settings control panel applet (although it's broken), a Sidebar (The sidebar is built into Explorer) and a new preview pane.
The build is stable enough for everyday use. Windows applications requiring Windows XP can be run with Compatibility mode. Also, some apps requiring a certain Service Pack can be installed by changing CSDVersion in the registry.
Problems with the build is that explorer crashes frequently and when shutting down or logging off, explorer will not kill itself.
This build, being still an extremely early build, is still not much different from Windows NT 5 (Windows 2000/XP/.NET Server 2003, later Server 2003), due to being almost entirely the same code. It was moreso of a preliminary test release of the Longhorn code for developers, along with certain portions of the Longhorn feature set (such as most notably the Sidebar), but almost everything else is the same, including the Setup routine.
The version of Internet Explorer included in this build, Internet Explorer 6.05, is basically the same as Internet Explorer 6.0 (included with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003).
