Windows 8 is the upcoming successor of Windows 7. Some builds after the Windows 7 "7600" have been leaked (pictures) and have been thought to be a Windows 8 Alpha, but right now, that is not yet known, but is said by others to be quite possible. It has secretly been said in a blog of as Microsoft Employee (that was cached by Google because it was deleted) that it will not be included as a 32-bit OS, but as a 64-bit OS. The NT version would be 7.0, even though its "8", Windows 7's was 6.1.

As stated by a Microsoft employee, Windows 8 will be "totally different" when it is expected to be released, sometime around 2011 or 2012. Some reports say that Windows 8's internal codename may also be Windows.Next.
