Template:Infobox WindowsBuild Windows/386 2.01 (Compaq) is the first version of Windows 2.x released for Intel 80386-based PCs and compatibles, and was shipped prior to the final release of Windows 2.0, in September 1987, before the rest of the product was ready.
This release schedule was done to meet a deadline for providing Compaq with a version of Microsoft Windows that could take advantage of the advanced capabilities of its 80386-based machines.[1]
