Revision as of 09:13, 22 July 2015

Microsoft Windows/386 version 2.01 was the first version of Windows released for Intel 80386-based PCs and compatibles, and was shipped prior to the final release of Windows 2.0, in September 1987, before the rest of the product was ready.

This release schedule was done to meet a deadline for providing Compaq with a version of Microsoft Windows that could take advantage of the advanced capabilities of its 80386-based machines.[1]

The final version of Microsoft Windows 2.0 was shipped in approximately November to December 1987, and included both, Microsoft Windows version 2.03 and Microsoft Windows/386 version 2.03.
