Talk:Main Page/Do you know

It is not the intention to fan the flames, so to speak, but would it not be possible to include original details? There are several of which I can conceive that the competitors do not have. (Maza (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2019 (BST))

@Maza What do you mean by "original details"? X010 (talk) 08:25, 8 July 2019 (BST)
@X010 I apologize for the confusion. By "original details" I mean details that are not mentioned elsewhere (e.g., at BetaWiki). The current list of facts on the "Do you know" page includes details that are mentioned elsewhere.
@Maza I got your point, but the challenge then would be to find something that is a 'fact' and that others do not have. Do you have some ideas or examples on this? X010 (talk) 10:15, 9 July 2019 (BST)
@X010} I do have examples of details that are factual and that no competitor has. Please allow me to provide the following examples:

Did you know...

  • ...that the Saved Search feature had four different extensions (autolist, vfolder, search, search-ms) throughout the development of Windows Vista?
  • ...that the Library—a Saved Search (then Virtual Folder) that Microsoft intended to be the central location for the discovery and organization of items—was included from Windows Vista Build 5219 to Build 5308?
  • ...that a "Shared To Me" Saved Search in a Microsoft patent can be created and used in Windows Vista?
  • ...that Windows Vista Build 5112 includes the List Pane?
  • ...that photos can be stacked by camera models in Windows Vista to view all photos that were taken with a specific camera?

Please note that these are just examples and I am not necessarily requesting their use—largely because I am unsure how you or others would feel about them; however, if you would like to use them (to supplement or substitute the existing details) that would be fine. (Maza (talk) 20:49, 9 July 2019 (BST))

@Maza I like them, but in my opinion they are a bit technical for people to understand. I mean, I think we should include some of them, and include some others that people can understand with ease. -SistemaRayoXP (Tlajomulco, Jalisco, MX) (talk) 22:58, 9 July 2019 (BST)

@SistemaRayoXP Thank you for your input. I apologize. (Maza (talk) 02:04, 11 July 2019 (BST))
@Maza @SistemaRayoXP Sorry for the long delay as I was travelling. I wonder whether these facts (as they pertain to one OS) would be better suited somewhere in the Windows Vista page? Though I see no problem with adding one or two of them in the main page. X010 (talk) 06:47, 16 July 2019 (BST)
@X010 I totally agree. -SistemaRayoXP (Tlajomulco, Jalisco, MX) (talk) 17:58, 22 July 2019 (BST)
@SistemaRayoXP @X010 Which of these would you feel to be best suitable for the main page? Also, would it be acceptable to create a Trivia subsection in the main Windows Vista article and include all of these details? I am just not sure how you would desire for this to be added. Thank you for your assistance and for your time. (Maza (talk) 18:14, 23 July 2019 (BST))
@Maza Trivia looks fine, or how about a Quiz? I actually have a sample at User:X010/sandbox (click Edit to see the questions). If there is enough support I might push for its inclusion to Andy.
[and as for the first part, I would take two of the first, second and fifth point. What "List Pane" is as described in the fourth point isn't clear to me] X010 (talk) 09:04, 24 July 2019 (BST)
@X010 To be clear, all but the point about the List Pane or? I apologize for not being clear. The List Pane... is designed to facilitate the creation of Static Lists from within Windows Explorer (users can drag and drop items into it and save the new Static List). Here is a screenshot of it in Build 5212 (I do not have any of it in Build 5112, as this requires importing Registry entries to enable both it and Static Lists, something I need to include in the article). Finally, thank you for the Quiz extension and for answering the question. (Maza (talk) 17:13, 24 July 2019 (BST))
@Maza No, it was just that I didn't understand what the List Pane was (sorry!). And the Quiz extension isn't yet on the wiki; I was just asking if you were interested in having that extension installed (so that I can pester Andy to install it as I can't do it myself). X010 (talk) 19:14, 24 July 2019 (BST)
I see. I am sorry for the delayed response. To answer your question, well, potentially "yes." I can see where it would have its uses. Perhaps it might encourage retention of information among readers. Thank you! (Maza (talk) 02:28, 23 August 2019 (BST))
