SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You install the MS07-040 security update. Then, you run a Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Web application that is built on the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. In this scenario, you may receive an exception error message that resembles the following:

Exception message: Type 'System.Web.HttpHeaderCollection' in Assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' is not marked as serializable.

Note This problem also occurs in the .NET Framework 2.0 for Windows Vista.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the public headers properties of the Request.Headers property and of the Response.Headers property become non-serializable after you install the MS07-040 security update.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
