The following list describes some best practices to use when you install Windows Server 2003 SP2 on a computer that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003:

    Note Windows Server 2003 SP2 is independent of Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1 and of Windows Server 2003 SP1. Even if Windows Server 2003 SP2 has been applied to the server, Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1 can still be installed on the server, and you do not have to uninstall Windows Server 2003 SP2. However, the Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1 prerequisites must be installed on the computer that is running Windows Small Business Server before you apply Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1. Installation issues

Networking issues

  • 936594 You may experience network-related problems after you install Windows Server 2003 SP2 or the Scalable Networking Pack on a Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer that has an advanced network adapter

User environment issues

  • 937231 "Help and Support" feature is missing after you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 on a computer that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003

  • Some print queues have a status of "Offline" after you install Windows Server 2003 SP2. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • The print queue uses the Standard TCP/IP Port port type.
    • In the properties dialog box of the port, the SNMP Status Enabled check box is selected.
    • The printer does not support SNMP.

    In this situation, the particular print queue tries to communicate by using SNMP. This behavior occurs even if the printer does not support SNMP. Therefore, Windows determines that the print queue is offline.

    To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
    2. Right-click the affected print queue, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Ports tab, click Standard TCP/IP Port in the list of ports, and then click Configure Port.
    4. Click to clear the SNMP Status Enabled check box, click OK, and then click Close.

Upgrade issues

  • 932600 In some scenarios, you must remove Windows Server 2003 SP2 before you upgrade to the full retail version of Windows Small Business Server 2003 or before you migrate to Windows Server 2003

  • 897342 Known issues that may occur if you install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on Windows Small Business Server 2003
