When you connect your Zune device to your TV, nothing is displayed on the TV

Article ID: 935883

Article Last Modified on 4/25/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Zune Digital Media Player

SYMPTOMS

When you connect your Zune device to your TV by using the Zune A/V Output Cable or by using the Zune Dock that is included in the Zune Home A/V Pack, nothing is displayed on the TV. Also, you may be unable to hear audio.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • On the device, you have not turned on TV out.
  • If you are using the Zune Dock, it is not connected to a power source.
  • The yellow plug on the Zune A/V Output Cable is not connected to the correct input jack on the TV, or the TV is not configured to use that input source.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Turn on TV out. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. From the home screen on the device, select settings, and then press the OK button in the center of the Control Pad.
    2. Select display, and then press OK.
    3. Select tv system. Press OK to switch between NTSC and PAL.

Note If you have a TV that was manufactured for North America, use NTSC.

    4. Select tv out, and then press OK.
    5. Press OK button.
  2. Make sure that the TV is turned on and that the cable is connected correctly.
  3. TVs frequently have more than one video input jack, such as "video 1" and "video 2." Make sure that the yellow plug on the Zune A/V Output Cable Zune is connected to the correct video input jack on the TV and that the TV is configured to use that input source.

For more information about which input jack to use or how to configure your TV, see the documentation that was included with your TV or contact the manufacturer.
  4. If you are using the Zune Dock, make sure that it is connected to a power source. To do this, use the Zune Sync Cable to connect the Zune Dock to a computer or to the Zune AC Adapter.

MORE INFORMATION

If you accidentally turn on TV out but do not have the Zune device connected correctly, you must turn TV out off before you can see anything on the Zune device screen. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
