ERROR MESSAGE: "Schedule failed to run: Task failed to run" when executing a scheduled recovery point.

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to run a schedule task, you receive the following error in Recovery Manager:

Schedule failed to run: Task failed to run

or the following entry in SchedLgU.txt:

The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed; therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or no account information existed for the task. The specific error is: 0x8009000f: Object already exists.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Protected Service service is not started or running on the Windows 2000-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, start the Protected Storage service using either of the following methods:

  • Use the Compmgmt.msc snap-in.
  • Type the following command at a command prompt: net start "protected storage"
