SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You connect a scanner or a digital camera to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). The scanner or the digital camera loads the Serial Scanner driver (Serscan.sys). In this scenario, Windows XP may crash. Additionally, you may receive the following error message on a blue screen:
Note If the digital camera or the scanner is connected by using a network or by using a Bluetooth transceiver, the device may load the Serial Scanner driver.
Note This problem may occur when you are performing a stress test that involves the Serscan.sys file, such as the test that is performed by the Driver Test Manager.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
To resolve this problem, obtain the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 927436. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
