INTRODUCTION

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You cannot search Microsoft Excel workbooks in a Windows SharePoint Services document library.

After you install Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server Service Pack 2, users cannot search the contents of Excel workbooks that are stored in a Windows SharePoint Services document library.

E-mail alerts do not work when the server that is running Windows SharePoint Services uses port translation.

You configure the server that is running Windows SharePoint Services to use a publishing rule that routes e-mail alerts through port translation. When you do this, the e-mail alerts do not work as expected.

The query server generates a search error after 32 active queries.

In Microsoft Windows Server 2003, only 32 query pipe instances can be created on a query server. Every Windows Server 2003 front-end server that serves queries must connect to a query pipe. This condition requires that the query server create at least one query pipe instance. Because of latency issues, these query pipes can quickly run out if the server farm contains multiple front-end servers.
