Error message when you try to run a wizard in Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Premium Edition: "Visual Studio Just-in-Time Debugger"

SYMPTOMS

You are running Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 (Windows SBS 2003 R2) Premium Edition, and you use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition as the database server. When you try to run a wizard in Windows SBS 2003 R2, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger

An unhandled Win32 exception occurred in FileName [4808]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time.

For example, you experience this symptom when you try to run the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW).

CAUSE

This issue occurs if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The installation of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition on the computer is damaged.
  • You uninstalled Visual Studio 2003 Express Edition from the computer. However, the uninstall operation was not completed successfully.

Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition is installed on the computer when you install SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Do one of the following, as appropriate for your situation:
    • If you have not uninstalled Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition from the computer, use the "Add or Remove Programs" tool to uninstall Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition.
    • If you already uninstalled Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition from the computer, go to step 2.
  2. Remove Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition from the Windows Installer cache. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type installer, and then click OK.
    2. On the View menu, click Details.
    3. Right-click the Date Modified column heading, and then click Comments if it is not already selected.
    4. In the Comments column, locate the Windows Installer file that has the following comment:

      Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition - English

      Note If you cannot locate the Windows Installer file that has the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition - English comment, download the following tool at the following Microsoft Web site. Run the tool to make sure that Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition is correctly uninstalled:

    5. Right-click the Windows Installer file that you located in step 2d, and then click Uninstall.
    6. Follow the directions that are displayed on the screen, and then exit Windows Installer.
  3. If you want to reinstall Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition, reinstall it from the installation media.
  4. Restart the computer.

Note If these steps do not resolve the issue, turn off the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature for all programs, and then restart the computer.
