APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

SYMPTOMS

In a Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 application, you create a local resource file (.resx) that is associated with a Web page (.aspx) or with a user control (.ascx). If you modify the resource file when the ASP.NET 2.0 application is running, you may receive the following error message:

Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: The resource class for this page was not found. Please check if the resource file exists and try again.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because ASP.NET 2.0 does not monitor the changes to the resource file. If you modify the resource file when the ASP.NET 2.0 application is running, the resource file is not recompiled. Therefore, the .aspx file that is already compiled becomes out of synchronization with the resource file. Or, the .ascx file that is already compiled becomes out of synchronization with the resource file. Therefore, an exception occurs.

RESOLUTION
