SYMPTOMS

When a crawl is performed on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 portal, complex remote links are not crawled when the links are in the same portal.

RESOLUTION

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the SharePoint Server 2007 Hotfix Package that is dated February 26, 2007.

How to enable the hotfix

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Applications\<guid>\CatalogNames\Portal_Content

    Note The <guid> placeholder is the GUID of the SharePoint Server portal.
  3. After you click the subkey that is specified in step 2, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type FollowPortalLinks, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click FollowPortalLinks, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
