Bug#: 50000771 (SQL Hotfix)

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SUMMARY

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:

  • The issues that are fixed by this hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes
  • The files that are contained in the hotfix package

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You have a computer that is running the version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services that is included in SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition. You use the Association Rules algorithm to process a data mining model. In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Errors and Warnings from Response
Error (Data mining): The 'MiningModelName' mining model has Number attributes. This number of attributes exceeds the attribute limit of 5000 allowed by the current version of the algorithm associated with the mining model.
Errors related to feature availability and configuration: The 'Unlimited data mining attributes.' feature is not included in the '<Edition>' SKU.

Notes

  • This problem only occurs in the version of Analysis Services that is included in SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.
  • MiningModelName is a placeholder for the name of the data mining model.
  • Number is a placeholder for a number of attributes.
  • If the computer is running the 32-bit version of Analysis Services, the text in the Edition placeholder is "Standard Edition." If the computer is running the 64-bit version of Analysis Services, the text in the Edition placeholder is "64 Bit Standard Edition."

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the number of attributes that you specify for the Association Rules algorithm exceeds the limit.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

In the version of Analysis Services that is included in SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, the maximum number of attributes that you can specify in the Association Rules algorithm is 5,000.

You can define a slice on the cube to restrict the number of attributes that you can specify in the Association Rules algorithm. However, Analysis Services does not consider the slice when it determines the total number of attributes for the Association Rules algorithm. After you apply this hotfix, Analysis Services uses the slice to restrict the number of attributes when it determines the total number of attributes for the Association Rules algorithm.
