One-time timer jobs will not run until one hour after the jobs were created in SharePoint Server 2007

Article ID: 932563

Article Last Modified on 2/27/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

SYMPTOMS

A time zone is set to a location that uses daylight saving time (DST) on a computer that is running Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. When this occurs, one-time timer jobs will not run until one hour after the jobs were created.

Note This problem occurs only during daylight saving time.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

  • Schedule tasks to start one hour earlier during daylight saving time.
  • Change the time zone on the servers that are running SharePoint Server 2007 to a similar time zone that does not use DST, as follows:
    • In Auckland, in Wellington, in Fiji, in Kamchatka, and in the Marshall Islands, change the time zone to (Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)+12:00).
    • In Canberra, in Melbourne, in Sydney, and in Brisbane, change the time zone to (UTC+10:00).
    • In Adelaide and in Darwin, change the time zone to (UTC+09:30).
    • In Perth, in Kuala Lumpur, and in Singapore, change the time zone to (UTC+08:00).
Note Change the time zone on all the SharePoint Server 2007 servers in the farm to the same time zone.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

A list of common tasks that will create one-time timer jobs is as follows:

  • Deploy content
  • Back up and restore data
  • Add a query server or an index server
  • Provision Web applications
  • Change service security credentials
  • Change diagnostic settings

To determine whether a task will take a long time, you can view the Timer Job Definitions list on the SharePoint Central Administration Web site, and then verify the schedule type for the job. If the job has a schedule type of "one-time," the job will be delayed by one hour.

Daylight saving time in Australia - South Australia, in Victoria, in Australian Capital Territory, in New South Wales, and in Lord Howe Island starts on the last Sunday in October and ends on the last Sunday in March.

Daylight saving time in New Zealand and in Australia - Tasmania starts on the first Sunday in October and ends on the last Sunday in March.
