Article ID: 932211

Article Last Modified on 10/23/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft XBox 360 Video Game System
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • Microsoft Xbox

SYMPTOMS

The media that you added to a Windows Vista-based Media Center computer after a Media Center Extender was added does not appear in the Media Center Extender library.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the library on the Windows Vista-based Media Center computer is separate from the library that is associated with the Media Center Extender. Media from the library on the Media Center computer is not automatically listed in the Media Center Extender Library.

THINGS TO TRY

  • Manually add the media to the Media Center Extender library. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start Windows Media Center.
    2. Click Tasks, and then click Settings.
    3. Click Library Setup.
    4. Click Add folder to watch, and then click Next.
    5. Locate the folders that contain media, and then select the check box next to each folder that contains the media that you want to add.
    6. Click Next, and then click Finish.

Note After you add the files, it may take several minutes for the files to appear in the library.

    7. Let the Adding Media process finish on the Media Center Extender.

Note This step can take up to an hour or longer, depending on the content that has to be added. If you cancel the Adding Media process, the process will restart the next time that you access the media gallery.

MORE INFORMATION

When you set up the Media Center Extender, certain directories are automatically added to the Media Center Extender library. After you set up the Extender, it does not automatically add media to the library. To add media to the Media Center Extender library, you must add the media manually.

If the media still does not appear in the library after several minutes, you may have to examine the permissions that are associated with the appropriate folders.
