Sender's name is formatted incorrectly in an e-mail notification in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Article ID: 932165

Article Last Modified on 4/4/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You create a new Microsoft Office SharePoint site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. You edit the site properties, and you remove the site name. Then, you set up e-mail notification for the site. In this scenario, the sender's name is formatted incorrectly when you receive an e-mail notification.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when an existing SharePoint site does not have a name in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. By default, the name that is contained in the notification e-mail is a combination of the site name and the sender's e-mail address. If the site name does not exist, the From section of the e-mail is formatted incorrectly. Additionally, the sender's name appears together with mixed characters.

Note This issue does not occur in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must enter a name for the SharePoint site. After you do this, e-mail notifications are formatted correctly.
