SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a computer that uses Virtual Disk Service (VDS) 1.0, the Component Object Model (COM) interfaces for VDS are not registered in the Windows Registry.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Server 2003 SP2 uses VDS 1.1. Windows Server 2003 SP2 does not support earlier versions of VDS.

Note The computer is not automatically upgraded to use VDS 1.1 when you install Windows Server 2003 SP2.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 vds_ps.dll, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
