SYMPTOMS

When you are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Professional Edition for Service Providers Web client, you are prompted for credentials every 20 minutes. This problem occurs even if the values of the following registry entries are set to more than 20 minutes:

  • AbsoluteExpirationMinutes
  • SessionExpirationMinutes

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • In Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, the Enable session state check box is selected.
  • The value in the Session timeout field is 20.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Verify the value of the AbsoluteExpirationMinutes registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM

    3. Double-click AbsoluteExpirationMinutes.
    4. Under Base, click Decimal.
    5. Note the value in the Value data field.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type inetmgr, and then click OK.
  3. In the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager window, expand the server name, expand Web Sites, right-click the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers Web site, and then click Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Home Directory tab, and then click Configuration.
  5. In the Application Configuration dialog box, click the Options tab.
  6. In the Session timeout field, type the value that you noted in step 1e.
  7. Click OK two times.
  8. Click Start, click Run, type iisreset, and then click OK.
  9. Log off the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers Web client, and then log on again. Then, you will be prompted for credentials at the interval that you specified in the AbsoluteExpirationMinutes registry entry and in the SessionExpirationMinutes registry entry.
