Article ID: 931577

Article Last Modified on 4/19/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SoftGrid for Terminal Services
  • Microsoft SoftGrid for Windows Desktops

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start an application in Microsoft SoftGrid Client, the application does not start. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The SoftGrid Client could not launch application_name.
Access is denied.
Error code: xxxxxx-xxxxxx2C-80070005

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • The HREF element of the .osd file is configured to a UNC path, and you do not have access to the share or to the executable file.
  • The FILENAME attribute of the CODEBASE element of the .osd file is configured to a UNC path, and you do not have access to the share or to the executable file.

    For example, the FILENAME attribute is configured as follows:

    FILENAME="\\FILESERVER\SHARE\sft_ea.exe"

    However, you do not have access to SHARE.
  • The FILENAME attribute of the CODEBASE element of the .osd file is configured to start an executable file from a package root directory in the SoftGrid Client cache for a different application.

    For example, the FILENAME attribute for SoftGrid Example Application 7.0 is configured as follows:

    FILENAME="sft_ea80.v1\Softricity\SoftGrid Example Application\sft_ea.exe"

    However, a different application, SoftGrid Example Application 8.0, is already in cache and already uses "sft_ea80.v1." The .osd file for SoftGrid Example Application 7.0 should be referencing "sft_ea70.v1."
  • You try to start the application by running the .osd file. However, you do not have access to the .osd file.
