Article Last Modified on 6/18/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Premium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

After you run the Setup program from the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Technologies CD, the version of Small Business Server 2003 does not appear to be the R2 version. For example, if you run the Winver.exe command-line tool on a server that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, the version information does not indicate that it is the R2 version.

RESOLUTION

To determine whether you have successfully installed Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Technologies from the CD, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Manage Your Server.
  2. In the Manage Your Server Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, examine the top of the screen. If you have successfully installed the program, the Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 logo appears at the top of the screen.

Additionally, you can examine the Navigation Pane. If you have successfully installed the program, you will see the Update Services node in this pane.

Note If you select not to install the Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) component of Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, this node will not appear.
  3. Examine the registry to see whether the following registry subkeys exist:
    • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\UpdateServices
    • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Setup\ Value "R2"=dword:00000001
    • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Setup\R2\
These subkeys also indicate that the program has successfully installed.
