INTRODUCTION
This article discusses how to configure Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP to cache the domain name, the user name, and the password that is used to authenticate a user on a Microsoft SoftGrid Client computer.

In some scenarios, a SoftGrid Client computer is not a member of the same domain as the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server. The SoftGrid Client is sometimes not even a member of a trusted domain.
The default provider is configured for Windows Authentication. Therefore, even though a user of the SoftGrid Client computer has a Windows domain user account, the user cannot log on to the domain. When the user updates the desktop, applications do not appear. Additionally, an error code will be displayed. When the user streams an application, the user will be prompted for credentials.
In this scenario, you can configure Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP to cache the domain name, the user name, and the password that is used to authenticate the SoftGrid Client. To do this, follow these steps.
Note The steps vary depending on the system configuration.
- If you are running Windows Server 2003, click Control Panel, click Stored User Names and Passwords, and then go to step 5. If you are running Windows XP, go to step 2.
- In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Manage Passwords.
- Click Add.
- Type the name of the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server.
- Type the domain name and the user name in the following format:
Domain\Username - Type the password.
- Click OK, click Close, and then click OK.
