Error message when you try to install the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server: "Login failed for user 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data'"

SYMPTOMS

You try to install the Microsoft SoftGrid Virtual Application Server. However, the installation fails, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:

The installation program encountered an error while attempting to connect to the database. Login failed for user 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data'.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when a number sign (#) character is used in a text-entry box during installation. When this character is used, installation of the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server may fail.

RESOLUTION

Do not use a number sign (#) character in any text-entry box in the SoftGrid InstallShield Wizard.
