SYMPTOMS
When you print a Microsoft Excel worksheet, a Microsoft PowerPoint slide, or a Microsoft Word document to a PostScript printer, the text on an axis of a graph is printed with a black fill effect.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The graph was created by using a program in the English version of Microsoft Office 2000 on a computer that is running an English version of a Microsoft Windows operating system.
- The graph was copied to an Excel worksheet, to a PowerPoint slide, or to a Word document.
- The font size is set to less than 8 points for the text on an axis of the graph.
- The angle is set to 90 degrees for the text on the axis of the graph.
These conditions are not dependent on the types of the applications, the versions of the applications, the language versions of the applications, and the printing environments that are used to print the final document.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, perform one of the following actions:
- Set the font size to larger than 8 points for the text on the axis of the graph.
- Set the angle to something other than 90 degrees for the text on the axis of the graph.
- Print the document to printer that is not a PostScript printer.

Steps to reproduce the behavior
To reproduce this issue, follow these steps in the English version of Office 2000:
- Create a chart or a graph.
- Right-click the x-axis, and then click Format Axis.
- On the Font tab, set the font size to 6 points in the Size list.
- On the Alignment tab, set the angle of the characters to 90 degrees.
- Click OK.
- Select the chart or the graph that you want to copy, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.
- Start Word or PowerPoint.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Print the file to a PostScript printer.
The text on the x-axis is printed with a black fill effect.
