An error message is logged on a computer that is running the PolicyMaker Client: "The '<GPO name> {<GUID>}' license is only valid for a previous version of this product"

Article ID: 931057

Article Last Modified on 11/30/2007

APPLIES TO

  • PolicyMaker Standard Edition 2.0

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running the Desktop Standard PolicyMaker Client, an error message that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:

The 'GPO name{GUID}' license is only valid for a previous version of this product

Note GPO name represents the display name of the Group Policy object (GPO). GUID represents the GUID of the GPO.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the license in the GPO is for an earlier version of Policy Maker Standard Edition. The PolicyMaker client-side extension (CSE) checks for a valid license in the GPO. If the PolicyMaker CSE detects that the license is for an earlier version of PolicyMaker, the PolicyMaker CSE reports an error.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, replace the license in the GPO by using a license that is valid for the current version of PolicyMaker Standard Edition. Then, update the GPO.

Note If you have a license from an earlier version of PolicyMaker Standard Edition and want to evaluate the new version, visit the following Microsoft Web site to obtain a new license:
